There are so many things that make us happy this special time of year but there are also some things that can bring some extra stresses. Hopefully you are able to find more of the happiness than the stress. Gratitude

Studies have been done, videos recorded and books written. They all have the same basic conclusion, that taking time to be grateful can literally make you happier.

One specific study done by Emmons of UC Davis & McCullough of the University of Miami reports that those who kept gratitude journals on a weekly basis exercised more, reported fewer physical symptoms, felt better about ehir lives as a whole, and where more optimistic about the upcoming week compared to those who recorded hassles or neutral life events.

Those are some really cool stats just by keeping a gratitude journal. I think it is something I’d like to try to do in the new year.

About a month I saw a great video that shows how powerful it can be to tell others how grateful you are for them. It is called The Science of Happiness – An Experiment in Gratitude. If you don’t want any spoilers then I would suggest watching the video before reading more.

While it is very touching seeing these people be so grateful and touching I think one of the things that amazed me most was when he said, “The person who experienced the biggest jump in happiness was the least happy person who walked in the door.” He goes on to explain that statement by saying, “If you are having a particularly tough time, expressing your gratitude to those you are grateful for will more likely have a greater impact.” I love that!

Express your gratitude this Christmas, you’ll be happier! If you are having a hard time and feeling really down, express your gratitude to someone you love and you will feel much better. Let the true feeling of Christmas into your heart by being grateful. It does wonders!
